SOUTH AFRICA | BRAAIBROODJIES

National dish

Output: 4 servings


Ingredients

  • 12 slices if light sourdough bread
  • 50 g butter
  • 4 slices of Jarlsberg® original
  • 4 slices of Jarlsberg® Special reserve
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • 8 slices of cured ham or ostrich
  • 4 – 6 tablespoons sweet and sour chutney, for example Mrs Ball’s
  • 1 pack of streaky bacon
  • 4 tablespoons rapeseed oil


Preparation

Fry the bacon until crispy. Spread the butter on a bread slice and put cheese, ostrich (or ham), tomato, onion, bacon and chutney on top. Add another bread slice on top and repeat. Tie together with a string. Brush with oil. Grill on middle heat until the cheese melts and the bread has got color.
